Community Roots: playback theatre performance stories of weaving the wisdom of art & activism

Art. Activism. Organizing. Community

WHEN - Saturday, September 10, 2:00pm - 3:30pm, followed by a discussion from 3:30pm - 4:30pm

WHERE - Olympia Senior Center, 222 Columbia Street NW, Olympia, WA 98501

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Join us for an afternoon of Playback Theatre, a spontaneous collaboration between performers and audience. People tell real moments from their lives, then watch them re-created on stage. This is an Audience Up! performance. In this performance audience members are invited to join and perform alongside us.

Come for the performance, and stay for a discussion with performers about how playback has grown in the community over the past 25+ years!

This event grew from the stories Debe Edden shared with us through The Third Thirty project and was produced in collaboration with Senior Services for South Sound.

Window Seat Media was awarded a grant from the American Historical Association to support Community Roots programming.

*A NOTE ABOUT PRICING

As a worker self-directed nonprofit, we balance our value for equity and accessibility in our programming with the need to honor the actual costs of skills and services being offered. That's why we're offering a large sliding scale of pricing ($0-$100) at these events! If folks who have an abundance and can pay a little more do, it will empower others to pay a little less when they need to. The outcome? Everyone will be able to attend. The actual cost of producing this event is about $20/person. Ticket sales support event costs such as facilitator honorariums, staff time, and speaker fees. Community donations allow our organization to be nimble with our offerings and services. We appreciate all donations, both large and small. Consider becoming a monthly donor today!
