Annual Community Storytelling Campaign 2022

A fundraising campaign honoring and deepening community relationships

Window Seat Media invites you to share in the transformative power of community storytelling by committing to a recurring donation for as little as $5 monthly.

Join us in our vision to help cultivate a local community that honors, seeks out, and is shaped by the many histories, identities, and stories that reflect the people we are in this place. Your donation supports our community offerings and expertise, such as oral history workshops and trainings, community-based storytelling projects and events, community storytelling circles, Playback Theatre workshops and performances, and more. Our work impacts the community because it is co-created with the community. This annual campaign aims to deepen our community relationships, which in turn strengthens our ongoing base of support. Thank you for helping us care for and connect in the community through oral history and storytelling.

BECOME A MONTHLY DONOR! We value all donations, both large and small.

ABOUT WINDOW SEAT MEDIA

We are a community storytelling organization that uses story to spark conversation, connection, and social change in the South Sound. Oral history and personal narrative are at the center of our work. We experiment with a variety of formats - Playback Theatre, community conversations, artistic collaborations, podcasts, film screenings, exhibits, and more - to amplify local knowledge, share powerful stories that have been historically left out of public history, and ask what is possible today and into the future. We do this because we believe we write our future with the stories we narrate, and we are committed to co-creating a more inclusive, connected, and just world.

SUMMER UPDATE

Our year started in the aftermath of the fire that burned down the building we shared with many other small businesses on December 15, 2021. We were touched by how many folks asked how they could support us. When we needed a new space, equipment, and time to care for ourselves, this community, connected by a love of storytelling, showed up with abundant care. Strong community relationships are what have gotten us through - not only the fire and pandemic times - but relationships are the foundation of who we are at Window Seat. Continuing synergy of community relationships carries us onward into the future. We are thrilled to continue organizing The Third Thirty community oral history project and convening monthly Community Storytelling Circles in 2022. We have launched a new storytelling community engagement program, Brave Practice Playback Theatre Collective, and have begun working with youth in schools. We have also partnered with many local organizations to bring expertise and capacity to their community storytelling, civic engagement, and public communications efforts.

Key 2022 community partnerships include:

  • Asian Pacific Islander Coalition of South Puget Sound / Multicultural Services Center of South Sound (Race & Civic Engagement events)
  • ASHHO Cultural Community and Job Training Center (Brave Practice performances and workshop)
  • Center for Washington Cultural Traditions (A More Perfect Union, Rites of Green, Cultural Documentation Field School)
  • CIELO (Nuestras Historias project)
  • Community Foundation of South Puget Sound (Nonprofit storytelling workshops)
  • Empowerment 4 Girls (Brave Practice performance)
  • The Evergreen State College (Evergreen Oral History project)
  • GRuB (Brave Practice performance)
  • The Heartsparkle Players Playback Theater Ensemble
  • Nisqually Indian Tribe (Nisqually Elders History project)
  • TOGETHER! Community Schools (Brave Practice afterschool program)
