The world needs places like the Whidbey Institute to meet the challenges of today, to heal and transform ourselves and our relations. People are drawn to the Whidbey Institute to slow down, to be nourished, and to reflect on what is theirs to do in this time of great need. They are hungry to connect and collaborate with their community and gain capacities to better serve.
Your gift to our Winter Campaign will create programs to welcome back our community and invite new friends for trail hikes, neighborhood potlucks, Storyhouse Stage concerts, our 50th Anniversary and more.
Large community events such as summer festivals, autumn Galas, and seasonal celebrations have been absent from the Whidbey Institute since the start of Covid. Winter Gathering 2020 was the last major event in Thomas Berry Hall. As we work to provide safe indoor events for all the members of our community and find new ways to gather outdoors, we hear your desires to be with one another again. Our September Reconnecting in Gratitude and Hope event, held in the courtyard, was well attended and much appreciated!
This fall, we increased our outreach to regional non-profits, especially those on Whidbey Island, who might be interested in holding day-long retreats in one of our gathering spaces. We plan to expand this outreach next year as we look to serve our community.
Last month we created a community programs circle to plan gatherings for 2023. Your contribution to this year’s Winter Campaign will help this group design and support new and beloved community gatherings in the Commons, Thomas Berry Hall, the Sanctuary, on the trails, in the gardens, and in the labyrinth.
