A Sweet Shadow

Shadow's Story from Emily, her savior:

I work in the maintenance department at my apartment complex, and I was beginning the day at 8 a.m. walking around the complex doing work outside. My coworker was staring at the bushes and called me to come over and look. As I looked into the bushes I saw a skinny, grey kitten with a long tail. I was immediately entranced.

I put my hand down into the bushes to see if she would be interested, she showed little response. I moved forward and gently pet her back to see if she would jump, run, or be ok with it. She didn't mind, so I took my shot and cupped her belly in my palms and lifted her up. She was practically limp in my hands without any sense of wanting to get away. I held her close to my chest and we walked into the apartment complex to find a cardboard box to put her in. When I set her down in the box she reached up and laid her paws on the side and meowed for attention. I quickly put my hands back in the box and she rubbed up against them and I started scratching her face. She started to purr, which was very surprising to me!

I knew at that moment she was a sweet girl. She only stayed in my care for a little more than 24 hours, and while I had her she was always happy to see me and enjoyed rubs, scratches, and being held. She ate food like a pro and knew immediately what to do with the litter that was laid out for her. I asked all day if someone could take her in as I could not home her, and no personal friends of mine had the opportunity.

Thankfully, a friend of mine connected with Anne at Thundering Paws stressing to her that I noticed the kitten sneezed a lot, had a swollen eye, and really needed attention and competence on her situation that I did not have. Anne did her magic and called me not even an hour later with resources for the kitten. I was able to drop her off at the animal hospital in Austin where she received all the care she needed. The sweetest thing was that our short lasting bond would now forever hold sentiment, as I was able to name her, Shadow. I'm excited to see where Shadow goes in her future as she has a long one ahead of her.
