Everyone at some level knows that life can change suddenly. Brendan knows that more than most. On a grey January morning Brendan went for a quick run in the final day of his youngest son's hockey tournament. Little did he know that it would be the last run on two feet.

Brendan started feeling poorly later that day, and three days later, he was on life support fighting a bacterial infection. Brendan overcame multiple heart surgeries, the amputation of one leg and the amputation of part of the other foot. A month and a half later, he was home with his wife and three sons.

In a little over 2 weeks he was back on his bike. A month later he was ice skating again. He joined a para-triathlon team and began training. Brendan's desire and work ethic was there. His prosthetic equipment was not. Fortunately, Brendan comes not only from an athletic family, but a resourceful one too. His sister Piper researched options and discovered Amputee Blade Runners, a nonprofit committed to helping amputees run.

Brendan traveled from Connecticut to Savannah, GA to work with fellow amputee and ABR co-founder, Ryan Fann. Ryan and the team worked hard to make Brendan his first running leg, a device that insurance deems an unnecessary luxury.
