A CELEBRATION OF MINISTRY & LEADERSHIP

For the Rev. Ernest D. Lyles

A lifetime dedicated to Faith, Family Education, and Service

Friday, April 28, 2017 thru Sunday, April 30, 2017

After 36 years of faithful and committed service as an assistant pastor and senior pastor, it is with great joy and gratitude that we announce the retirement of Reverend Ernest D Lyles, Sr. from the Baltimore/Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church. During this period of time, Rev. Lyles demonstrated exceptional and effective leadership as a pastor, educator, missionary, organizer, civil rights activist, and anti-poverty advocate.

Most Notably, Rev Lyles:

  • Established and served as the first director of the Shepherd University Office of Multicultural Students Affairs, which awarded over $1 Million in scholarship aid to deserving students during his tenure
  • Served as an organizing member and past president of FOCUS (Free Our Citizens of Unhealthy Substances), a federally funded anti-drug program
  • Established and served as the Executive Director of Project Excel, a community based after-school program that offered academic support services and cultural enrichment opportunities to elementary school students from 1997 to 2016
  • Established and served as President of El Shaddai International (ESI), a non-profit 501(c)(3) global community development corporation, organized to alleviate poverty through education and economic empowerment programs, projects, and initiatives. On May 19, 2009, ESI dedicated the Greta D. Shepherd Community School that it built in Ghana, West Africa
  • Revitalized and grew all four of the United Methodist churches he was appointed to serve as the Senior Pastor
  • Led hundreds of American citizens on cultural awareness tours to Senegal, Ghana, and The Gambia where they delivered clothes, shoes, books, and school supplies to needy families
  • Established and serves as the acting Executive Director of the Brighter Day Enrichment Academy which contributes to the academic success of at-risk children and youth in Washington DC by providing expanded learning opportunities during out of school time.

Please join us as we celebrate the steadfast and devoted service and leadership of the Rev. Ernest D. Lyles Sr.
