Image titleOur two flagship mentoring programs - Pathways and Naomi - linking boys and girls with men and women (respectively) for longer-term one-to-one relationships intended to last at least two years, but ideally through high school graduation.

Our goal: To equip these mentors to serve as friends, advisers, and role models to their mentees and help students develop into strong and mature Christ-followers & men and women of honor.

Academic Tutoring Program: K-12

Inner-city, lower-income students face challenges that impact every area of their lives, but the impact on education is one that, if left unaddressed, could have life-long implications, including dropping out of school and never reaching their full potential. Our staff and volunteer tutors – who specialize in science, math, English, and writing — work one-to-one and in small groups with kindergartners to 12th graders all school-year-long to reinforce lessons, help strengthen reading skills, and ensure they complete assignments.

Our goal: Intervene as early as possible in their academic careers and, with a compassionate presence, show that we care, erasing hopelessness and securing their path to success both in the classroom and beyond.Image title

Summer Learning Programs

“Summer slide” affects students across the socioeconomic spectrum, leading otherwise thriving kids to lose ground. Imagine a student who is already behind because his parents work two jobs to make ends meet and can’t help with schoolwork. To him, summer slide could lead to giving up & dropping out.

Jericho’s seven-week Summer Learning Program combats summer slide among kindergartners through 12th-grade students who come from low-income, inner-city families, and are at risk of dropping out of school. They participate in lessons that reinforce reading, math, and bible studies, and also enjoy games, crafts, swimming lessons (K-5th graders) and field trips.

Our goal: Combat summer slide, complete summer assignments, and keep students from falling behind over the summer.

Reading Buddy Program

An astounding fact: All 13 of Danbury’s public elementary schools are Title I, meaning at least 50% of the students in the school qualify for free or reduced-cost meals. It also means that these same students face obstacles to learning that all too often prevent them from staying on course and performing at grade level.

Our goal: Partner with school administrators to reach at-risk students as early as possible in their academic career, providing them the support they need to be successful, for the common good of our city.
