*Please Read* Update September 8, 2021:
We are deeply grateful for the incredible amount
of support our teams have received to provide direct emergency response to the victims of the earthquake. We have been able to provide essential items
for food and hygiene, as well as materials for immediate shelter in the
aftermath of the disaster. We also know that there is still so much to be done
to help rebuild the communities that have been greatly impacted. Our teams
are now transitioning to work directly with local authorities in the communes to identify the most vulnerable households to support the reconstruction of their
homes. We see this as a way to a provide a more long term impact for the victims
of this disaster.
Your donations have provided an immediate direct relief and will now be
used to purchase materials to reconstruct homes in the areas impacted. Our response teams have already begun to identify households in greatest need, and supplies will be purchased locally in the areas to support local economies.
We are so proud of our response teams and their tireless effort, each and every day, to reach the most vulnerable people. And to our supporters (you!) and the
committment to Haiti after this event your response has been deeply felt in these
communities. For that, we are grateful.
As we now transition to this new reconstruction effort, we are also closing
this particular fundraising campaign. Our long time work and deep roots in
Haiti enables us to quickly respond to emergencies and provide critical immediate support. However, we also recognize the need to not only refocus on SOIL's core work, providing equitable access to sanitatiion in northern Haiti, but also the ongoing medium and long-term work that other organizations are able to do in the region impacted by the earthquake. If you would like to continue to support the response
efforts, we encourage you to take a look at this list of organizations that are continuing to work in the region: Haiti Response Coalition List of Trusted Orgs

THANK YOU!
Update August 26, 2021 -
The SOIL staff and response teams have been hard at work all week purchasing essential supplies, assembling hygiene kits and distributing provisions to the hospitals in need and the victims of the earthquake. We are so proud to be collaborating on these enormous efforts. The team is equally grateful to everyone who has helped to contribute to make this happen - and want to thank everyone on behalf of the victims.
Update August 18, 2021 - Thank you to everyone who has generously stepped up to support Haiti after this disaster. The impacts of the earthquake continue to grow along with the need for supplies and critical emergency services for
those affected. A quick update on SOIL's emergency response in the
coming days: Our team is coordinating 2 groups (a combination of SOIL employees and community leaders from the south that we have worked with for years) going to both the Les Cayes and Jeremie areas that will be bringing emergency supplies. In Les Cayes the team will be visiting Les Anglais, Camp Perrin and Roche a Bateau communes. In Jeremie, they will be trying to reach some of the more rural communes of Anse-a-Veau and L'Asile, where other first responders might not yet be focusing. Our team will be sharing information with the Civil Protection Agency to make sure they are aware of our activities in coordination with other responders.
SOIL will also be supporting the efforts of Second Mile Haiti and Care2Communities to send materials by plane from Cap-Haitien to Les Cayes for hospitals in the coming week. These materials will be purchased locally for these efforts, in order to support local economies over this difficult time. We will keep you updated on our response as we continue to assess the need.
Thank you for your generosity and support.
August 16, 2021 - We are incredibly touched by the outpouring of support we have received in response to the earthquake that occured this weekend. We wanted to be able to direct those who are interested in providing support for emergency response efforts and supplies to one place, and so have set up this donation page in order to earmark funds for this response.
SOIL has decided to provide initial direct support to two local Haitian community leaders from the south, that we have collaborated with since the 2010 earthquake, that have requested support from SOIL to take emergency supplies to the areas affected and assess the need. We expect the need to be ongoing either in this capacity, or through directing support to
other organizations as we continue to evaluate the best way to support these efforts.
All of SOIL's relief efforts will be conducted in partnership with trusted local organizations. Please keep spreading the word, and contribute if you can.
About SOIL
Since 2006, SOIL has been working in some of the poorest areas in Haiti to facilitate the community-identified priority of ecological sanitation, where human wastes are converted into valuable compost. SOIL's model simultaneously tackles some of Haiti’s toughest challenges – providing improved sanitation to people who would otherwise have no access to a toilet and producing rich organic compost critical for agriculture and reforestation.
