Inspiration is where you find it. If you look hard enough, you will see it everywhere.
At UrbanPromise Trenton the kids inspire us everyday. Their joy, their openess to try new things, their creative spirit, their resilancy in the face of obstacles and challenges that are part of their lives everyday, calls all of us to be inspired and love all these kids where they are- we are called to act out of love-love in action.
Each day after school, over 60 children in grades 1-8 participate in our FREE AfterSchool program at two sites in Trenton. While they are here they receive help with their academics and other essential academic enrichment. They are encouraged to use their creativity in music, dance, sports, and art clubs. And everyone receives a free hot dinner before they leave.
We employ 18 teens as StreetLeaders. They act as mentors and leaders to the younger students. But that is not all; we require that these teens maintain a 3.0 grade point average or they must attend mandatory academic support. As we say to the teens- it's not just a job, it's a mission.
But we don't do this alone. It takes a village to make this happen. Volunteers and donors help us keep this free program thriving. In this season of giving, we hope you will consider making a gift to UPT. Your inspirational gift makes a difference to the kids and teens at UPT- it is love in action.
In this season of inspiration, we don't need to look much further than the scene around a manger all those years ago. Shepards, animals, mystified parents and a baby who would grow up to inspire so many across time. Jesus was, and is, love in action, now and always!
