In an effort to celebrate our StreetLeaders this Christmas, UPT is planning a StreetLeader Christmas Party, and we are inviting our friends and family to contribute to the effort. Funds raised will be used to purchase gifts and books for Film and Literary Club, as well as subsidize the Christmas Party. After much consideration, we have chosen the following 2 gifts:
(1) Pete Souza’s Obama: An Intimate Portrait, which is a collection of photos Souza took as the official White House photographer of President Obama throughout his 8 years in office. In the photos, President Obama models humanity, empathy and compassion; many of these images are also examples of strength in vulnerability
(2) A holiday-themed sweater from American Eagle, which the StreetLeaders will wear at our Christmas Party for a team photo, and to keep them warm during the winter months.
The responsibilities of a UPT StreetLeader includes mentoring and tutoring 1st – 8th graders, maintaining a 2.7 GPA in each class, and participating in extra-curricular activities like Film and Literary Club, Poetry Slam, Leadership Development and the UrbanTrekker Program. Additionally, a handful of StreetLeaders also take a night class to further develop their academic writing skills at Mercer County Community College. For these StreetLeaders, their academic day begins at 8AM and ends 12 hours later at 8PM.
Please consider contributing to either the Christmas Party or the Holiday Reading List. We are working to raise a total of $3,000.00, and appreciate any gift no matter the amount.
