Marigny Opera House Annual Appeal 2017

Help us Help the Arts in New Orleans.

Not that long ago the old and abandoned Holy Trinity Church was falling apart. Empty since 1997, the building was in great disrepair and in danger of being torn down. In July 2012 Scott King and Dave Hurlbert purchased the church with an ambitious goal: to repair and restore the building, making it a venue for the performing artists of New Orleans.

Today, thanks largely to support from donors, the Marigny Opera House is a home to New Orleans artists. In 2016 the Marigny Opera House Foundation presented over 60 performances—contemporary ballet, classical music, opera, jazz, choral concerts, recitals, musical theater, festivals, and the city's beloved Drawathon. The church has been honored to take its place in the community by providing a place for weddings, memorial services, charity events and fundraisers, and weekly 12-step meetings.

In 2014 the Marigny Opera House became home to the city's only professional resident dance company offering a full season of performances: the acclaimed Marigny Opera Ballet. Now in its third successful season, the Ballet's seven resident dancers perform new works accompanied by live music. The Marigny Opera Ballet would never have been possible without the broad-based support of donors and audiences from every part of the city---and throughout the Gulf Coast.

Actually, almost none of this would have been possible without the generous donations we have received from the beginning.

I believe in turbulent times, the arts become even more important. They help to humanize people. They point our attention to beauty. And they give us all hope.

Please help us continue this good work.

Dave Hurlbert, Executive Director
