HRPT: White Bodied Scratch Session Workshop

Tuesday | November 28, 2023 | 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM

  • This Event is for white-bodied individuals.
  • This is an in-person event.
  • If you would like to support this and other events, consider a donation.

This workshop is for white bodies who are on a lifelong journey to dismantle oppression and want to have a somatic embodied experience.

This workshop will explore holding space through talking, singing, and physical touch, ranging from subtle to more impactful.

There will be pushing, pulling, and holding sessions. This space can invite rage, grief, or joy. We’re inviting folks to show up prepared to be in their bodies and their vulnerability and have their learning hearts open to absorbing the level of tender care that physical scratch sessions are inviting.

Let us invest in building community around being close to each other. It is NOT required that you participate in any physical portion of this workshop; you can come as a listener. BUT the more people participate, the more this tool can be available to the community.

Scratch Holding is foundationally a critically important way for us to NOT opt out of backing POGM and, more specifically, the African Heritage population.

Featuring Aaron Johnson:Image title

Aaron Johnson is a facilitator, public speaker, and touch specialist working to identify and interrupt barriers between people. As co-founder of both Holistic Resistance and Grief to Action, Aaron takes the time to hold the stories of black people around homophobia, transphobia, internalized racism, and those that are Chronically UnderTouched. Because oppression is a part of historical and present American culture, the long-term impact of those trauma stories should be acknowledged and held as a map for our collective healing. Aaron Johnson practices and invites various methods of moving through these stories, such as the communal listening ear, sound healing, meditation, and closeness to the earth.
