Helping Homeless in the midst of COVID-19

Lana Walker (San Clemente, CA)

"Growing up in Orange County, I’ve witnessed firsthand inequality of all kinds-- most notably between cities, but also within my own hometown of San Clemente. The rising cost of living, the affordable housing shortage, and many other social and economic factors have left many in our county unable to partake in the comfortable lifestyle that so many take for granted. In the time of a global pandemic, it’s these disadvantaged members of our community that are disproportionately affected and more at-risk. Mercy House is an incredible organization which has helped to prevent or end homelessness for over 1,700 individuals, many of whom live in Orange County. For every dollar donated, Mercy House allocates 93 cents directly to help the homeless, 75 cents higher than the industry standard, ensuring that your donation has the greatest impact possible. I realize that this time is difficult for everyone and donating might not be a possibility for many; however, any donation will be impactful. By supporting this cause, you will help Mercy House continue to provide safe and secure housing to those in our community who need it most. "

During this national crisis, it is important to remember those who are experiencing homelessness. Many individuals who are experiencing homelessness are more at-risk during this pandemic.

Over the past few days, we have seen a sharp decrease in the amount of volunteers and food donations coming in to support our emergency shelters. We understand that not everyone can make it to one of our shelters to volunteer, but we ask, that in place of that you make a small donation to help offset the costs associated with a decreased volunteer base.

By donating today, your gift will supply our homeless shelters with the proper support to keep those experiencing homelessness safe. Thank you!
