When you are looking for a book recommendation to help you talk with children about important topics, where do you go? If you are like most in our community, you turn to Tandem.

Picture books are a safe space for families to engage children in brave discussions about equity and racial justice - and it's never too early to start! That’s why parents and preschool teachers have been reaching out to Tandem, asking for book lists and book-sharing ideas.

Tandem responded in several ways:

  • With storytimes and interactive read aloud recordings of high-quality diverse books.
  • With donations of multicultural books to children and families - books that reflect children's backgrounds and experiences and help them learn about new people, places, and experiences.
  • With a workshop on Supporting Diversity and Inclusion with Storybooks that highlights the value of a diverse book collection and introduces parents to the criteria for evaluating and selecting books for their children.
  • With a new project called Mirrors, Windows, and Sliding Doors that brings together a community of parents to explore how picture books can support conversations about race with young children.

This work is only possible because of you.

Because of your contributions that Tandem has sent home over 10,000 multicultural books to families since the beginning of this year.

Show your support by investing in our families with a donation.
