This holiday season, give your community & the world the greatest gift of all: Hip Hop For Change

HipHopForChange, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit that uses grassroots activism to educate people about socio-economic injustices and advocate solutions through Hip Hop culture. We are building a base of self-determination, where the community controls the cultural narratives, values, and means of production. And we won’t stop until we take the game back! Join the fight for our culture!

A 2020 year-in-review: see what we accomplished!

We're going to be honest with you. We have been financially struggling the whole year because of COVID-19. We lost 25% of our donor base and had to let go of our entire grassroots canvassing team, leaving us with just a 6 person leadership team to run the organization. Despite the economic hardship, we have also accomplished so much in 2020:

  • We won the 2020 William J. Zellerbach Award For Social Change and the SF Symphony's Ellen Magnin Newman Award.
  • We started building a FREE recording studio for the youth to express themselves and heal from their trauma. This "Pipeline To Positivity" program will provide transitional and at-risk youth with caring mentors, artist development, and studio time (read more below).
  • We are working with Larkin Street Youth Services to provide transitional youth ages 18-24 with artist development and creative expression workshops every Monday and Wednesday! Many of these youth have come from group homes or were previously unhoused, and a lot of them identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+.
  • Despite school closures, we provided online Hip Hop and social justice education to students in Seattle, Chicago, Flint, Newark, and Houston, serving 2,000+ students in 30+ schools nationwide.
  • We are still out on the streets canvassing during COVID-19, risking our lives to raise money for the babies. We are determined to build the BEST studio ever for youth in need of a safe space to express themselves.
  • We have partnered with the SF Asian Art Museum and Stanford University to give you free all-age social justice webinar events.
  • We are holding a HH4C Winter Clothing Drive that will run from 12/9/20-1/9/21, which will give unsheltered community members access to warm clothes and other essential items this winter.
Be the gift that keeps on giving! Become a monthly donor!

We are still doing AMAZING work in and for the community! By giving to Hip Hop For Change, you are gifting the community with: Hip Hop education, free all-age social justice events, and grassroots jobs. Please help us get through the year, we really need your help to keep our Hip Hop Revolution alive.

OUR GIFT TO THE COMMUNITY:
A free recording studio for the youth

We are building a FREE recording studio for Bay Area youth to creatively express themselves and heal from their collective trauma through Hip Hop Culture. This free community space will provide our youth with opportunities for artist development, positive community role models, and resources to pursue their creative passions.

  • 30% of kids in Oakland have been diagnosed with PTSD (2012 CDC study)
  • 1 in 3 black kids born today will spend time in prison due to these racist narratives corporations are profiting from

That is why we will be working closely with Oakland transitional youth from juvenile detention centers and group homes to help them reintegrate back into our community. This will be our "Pipeline To Positivity" Educational Program, which will give ten transitional youth artistic mentorship and professional development from Hip Hop For Change artists.

As leaders of the community, we give the youth a deeper understanding of the critical role of Hip Hop Culture in and for POC communities. We will give them efficacy, mentors, resources, opportunities, and most importantly -- love.
