When I began working at The Relational Center in August, I fell in love immediately. It is unlike anywhere else I have ever worked. It feels like a home: a place where I can totally be myself and be seen and understood. I can even wear leggings to work- a huge plus!
The Relational Center is an organization whose every decision, large and small, is directly driven by their mission and values; feeling that passion and drive makes all the difference. The center offers a diverse range of services- individual and couples' therapy, a wide variety of therapy groups, yoga, meditation, workshops, classes, and special events- to the local community. They believe that wellness should be a universal human right, and that each of these components is crucial to achieving it.
They also put great emphasis on- you guessed it- relationship. We are all constantly in relationship to others as well as our environment. The center operates on the precept that strengthening relationships and being surrounded by community is how we thrive and heal. The root of problems is not located within the individual, but within the conditions of isolation that our modern world is so conducive to.
To that end, we are so much more than just a therapy provider. We are challenging conventions of the therapy world by empowering our members to take an active role in their own wellbeing, not acting as "experts" who know best. We are radically engaging with our surrounding community, understanding that as therapists we have unique political and social responsibilities. And we are fostering empathy and connectedness at a time when our world needs it most.
I am so beyond privileged to be a part of this community. It is incredibly special and I am continually energized and inspired by the work I get to do here.
