We're raising $10,000 to help women Veterans

Two years ago, the National Veterans Foundation began it's women veteran outreach program.  We now have two women outreach coordinators, including a  US Marine veteran and a clinical therapist who specializes in Military Sexual Trauma and wraparound wellness services.

Our women Veteran Outreach has helped many women vets who are struggling with things like suicide crisis intervention, finding long-term therapy, helping homeless women vets get off the streets and helping women vets keep from becoming homeless.

This is all in addition to our core Lifeline for Vets program which helps Veterans from around the country solve problems, get benefits can healthcare, and plugs them into a host of resources to help them with their struggles after leaving the military.

Last year, the Lifeline for Vets, served over 12,000 veterans of all ages and eras of service with a host of services tailored to their specific challenges.  An increase of 2,000 Veterans from the previous year. This included many women vets.

The demand for women veteran services is growing.

  • According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, about one in five women have told their VA healthcare provider that they experienced sexual trauma in the military.

  • The total women veteran population in the United States is more than 2 million.

  • It is reported that 10% of homeless veterans under the age of 45 are women.

  • Women Veterans are often an invisible population.

  • Their experiences transitioning from the military to civilian life are quite often different than the male veterans.

  • Women often do not identify as Veterans.

  • Women Veterans often do not seek services as soon as they are needed. When they do seek services, they need support immediately.

  • Few services are available specifically for women and especially for women with children.

  • Women Veterans sometimes experience an intense lack of trust in others and in dealing with support agencies. For this reason, it is critical to obtain contact details at the first meeting so that follow up is possible.
