Hospice of Marshall County

Our heart sets up apart

Services & Impact

Hospice of Marshall County began in 1982 as an all-volunteer agency. Our founder, Gayle Roadruck, saw a need for our community and took action. Today, HMC is the community’s oldest, largest, non-profit, hospice. We are specialists in end-of-life care and the embodiment of compassion. The HMC staff includes health care professionals certified in hospice and palliative care to expertly manage pain and other symptoms. Our staff are specially trained to listen and communicate with sensitivity and grace with patients and loved ones while showing empathy and providing hope and peace for people in the most difficult situations. For over 32 years, Hospice of Marshall County has faithfully served our community by providing services that add life to days. HMC was established on the foundation of hospice care as a ministry, and we continue this philosophy today.

With Hospice of Marshall County (HMC), hospice care is about people serving people in a loving, sensitive and personal way that allows them to spend the final days of their lives with comfort and dignity, surrounded by the people and things that they love. HMC provides the necessary support to the family as well, understanding the significance of patients’ families and communitiesfollowing up with members of the family for 13 months after a loss. Care involves a team-approach that includes expert medical care, pain-and-symptom management, spiritual, emotional, and practical support of the patient and their family. In addition to traditional hospice services including 24 hour registered nursing and Hospice Care nursing assistants, chaplains, social services, volunteers, supplies, and medications, HMC offers a support program for those coping with bereavement and family loss issues. These services are available FREE of charge to anyone in our service area regardless of if they have received hospice service. These community grief support services include more than eight specialized focus groups, in-school bereavement program, semi-annual memorial services and Camp H.O.P.E., a grief support day camp program that allows expressions of grief through activities with specially trained horses and staff members.

HMC understands that no two families or end-of-life situations are the same. Our goal is to individualize a plan to meet the needs of patients and their families by listening carefully to what would provide hope in each situation.

The desire to do more can be seen in the passion and commitment of our staff and volunteers. It can also be measured by the services we offer, which go above and beyond what many other hospices offer.

Because of the support of community contributions, no one who is in need of the hospice service or grief support services is denied because of an inability to pay.
