Insulin prices in the United States have shot up exponentially in the last 30 years, reaching sums of $275 per vial. With rising cases of diabetes, these numbers are far from sustainable. Open Insulin is developing the first freely available, open organisms for insulin production that will be practical for small-scale, locally-based groups to use.
