Last summer, our team met a young girl named Reagan while delivering lunches at her apartment complex. She was shy at first, but it didn’t take long for her to warm up. After a few visits, Reagan began to wave enthusiastically as we approached, wearing that smile that could melt hearts. Breathless from running, she would eagerly ask what will be in her lunch today; what started as a simple meal delivery quickly became something she looked forward to with excitement and anticipation.

When school let out for the summer, Reagan’s most dependable source of daily nutrition did the same. Her mom worked incredibly hard to provide for her family, clocking long hours and extra shifts. Like so many families we serve, they were doing their very best, but the gap left during the summer months was significant.

Reagan’s mom shared just how meaningful the program has been for their family. “When school is out, this program has been such a relief. It takes weight off my shoulders knowing Reagan will have something healthy to eat.” She also reflected on the impact beyond just the meals: “It’s not just the food, it’s the consistency and the kindness. Reagan looks forward to seeing the team every day. It reminds us that people care, and that we’re not in this alone.”

With the Summer Lunch Program, families like Reagan’s not only receive consistent, nutritious meals but also experience the care, stability, and encouragement that comes with each visit.
